Ron Gatepain TD, BSc, MPhil, MEd, MBEng, FCIOB, MRICS, FASI, MCMI, FIfL, PGCE, LCG is a Chartered Surveyor, Chartered Builder, Corporate Building Surveyor and a Corporate Building Engineer. He has lectured for the British Army on management courses and for Nottingham Trent and LoughboroughUniversities in Construction Technology, Management, Economics and Project Evaluation and Development.In addition he was for over 25 years the Managing Director of a Property Development Company.Prior to becoming a director of Gates MacBain Associates Ltd Ron lectured at LincolnCollege in Building and Civil Engineering Studies and was responsible for the development of new programmes and courses for their School of Construction. He has also developed Distance Learning courses and acted as a personal tutor for them and online training programmes. The author of several books and numerous magazine articles he is the Technical Expert Author Advisor and Editor to the constructionsitethe national e-learning and resource website for Higher and Further Education Institutions. Ron is experienced in the assessment of training requirements and the design of training courses in educational institutions, industry and the armed forces; having been a Lieutenant Colonel with the Royal Logistic Corps. He has over 25 years experience in construction education and training and is experienced in NVQ assessing and in internal verifying for construction and civil engineering courses.A member of the CIOB East Midland Regional Committee, he has also sat on their Strategy and External Relations Committee and was involved with the development of the criteria for Incorporated Engineer status through the Institute of Highway Engineers. He is an Architectural Historian and a visiting lecturer at Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln, where he lectures on Heritage courses; he also carries out engagements as a subject expert guest speaker on Architectural History for cruise ships throughout the world. He is the founder and contributes to and manages the Famous Historic Buildings website. In 2010 Ron was recognised in the Individual Award Category of the National Training Awards for his outstanding achievements in training and development and the benefits that had provided to others.
Christopher Bean BA, MEd, MCIOB, MBEng, FIfL, Cert Ed is a Chartered Builder, Corporate Surveyor and a Corporate Building Engineer who was responsible for the Technician, Professional and Craft courses within the School of Construction at Lincoln College before forming Gates MacBain Associates Ltd. He has first hand experience in many of the jobs within the construction industry having progressed from craftsman to the construction manager of a large multi-disciplinary building contracting firm before moving full time into education.Having served on the committees of several of the professional institutes he has also acted in the capacity of examiner for institute’s professional entry examinations and as an external examiner and is currently a member of the CIOB East Midland Regional Committee and has also sat on their Events and Best Practice Committee. Experienced in NVQ assessing and internal and external verifying for construction and civil engineering courses he is an approved mentor for the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) to guide candidates through to Incorporated and Chartered Engineer status and is involved with the development of the criteria for Incorporated Engineer status through the IHE.He has over 35 years experience in construction education and training and 20 years of leading and managing CIOB courses.
Steve Blackburn BSc, CEng, MICE is a Chartered Engineer with 36 years experience in Local Government, utilities and with civil engineering companies. He has worked in structural, water and highways engineering at senior management and director level and has managed major bridge and highways construction projects. Prior to joining Gates MacBain Associates he was Managing Director of LCR Highways Ltd and Divisional Director for Ringway Infrastructure Services where he was responsible for the introduction of the Trainee Highways Workers Scheme and the Apprenticeship Training Scheme for Highway Workers.
Ronald G Neal CMIOSH, I Eng, MICE is a Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner and an Incorporated Civil Engineer. He has extensive lecturing experience and was formerly Head of Construction Engineering at a major college of further education in England. He is currently the Principal Examiner in both Civil Engineering and Health & Safety for the Edexcel Foundation in London. Having began his work experience in the practical aspects of the construction and maintenance of roads he is a specialist in highway planning, design and construction. He has served as a Safety & Training Officer for a county council and as a College Safety adviser for a large College of Building. He has contributed to the revision of several major qualifications within the further education sector including HNC/HND and the NC in Construction and Civil Engineering and also served as the Centre of Vocational Excellence co-ordinator within Lincoln College where he lectured on specialist units in a variety ofCivil Engineering and Construction programmes.
Stuart Read LCG, Cert Ed has over 20 years working with colleges, training providers and schools across the East Midlands and is a former Head of Construction at Grantham College where he led a multi-disciplinary team teaching brickwork, joinery and plumbing.Prior to this Stuart was Managing Director of a number of companies working in the Construction, Recruitment and Training sectors and has been involved in the delivery of courses to the long-term unemployed. In addition he was an Associate Inspector for the Training Standards Commission (TSC ) ensuring quality of training provision and has delivered contracts with Business Link helping small to medium sized enterprises (SME’s) to access funding.
John Cobley BA, MSc, MCIOB, MIMgt, Cert Ed is a Chartered Builder who is currently Lead Verifier for the First and National Construction Programmes for Edexcel and is experienced in NVQ assessing, internal and external verifying for construction and civil engineering courses. Having started on the tools John held a number of positions at craft and managerial level before qualifying as a teacher and moving from the construction industry into education to become a Principal Lecturer, Curriculum Manager and Deputy Head of Construction at a number of colleges of Further Education. He has worked with Ofsted carrying out a large number of inspections before starting his own Consultancy business.
Leslie Peers BSc (Hons), MBEng, MITD is a Structural Building Surveyor who started his career on the practical aspect of construction before moving into Local Authority Building Control within a large District Council. After 8 years in that post he set up his own development company specialising in the repair of structurally damaged buildings - including the repair of listed buildings - and was involved with project management across the North of England. In addition he has worked with Construction Skills as Training Adviser for a number of sectors of the industry, including specialist trades and the services and has sat on committees dealing with the development of NVQ's and other qualifications. He was also a part time lecturer at Leeds Metropolitan University in Planned Maintenance and was for 5 years the National Skills Development and Training Manager for the Wates Group involved in assessing skills gaps in relation to new work and apprenticeships. The holder of the NEBOsh qualifications he served as Chairman of the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Construction Advisory Group addressing skills needs and issues regionally and was a previous Chair of the Yorkshire branch of the Association of Building Engineers. Leslie's previous appointment was as Associate Director for Foundation Degree Forward dealing with the development of Foundation degrees and was lead on the development of the new Foundation degree for Construction Operations Management.
Beth Devlin MCIOB is a Chartered Builder with over
20 years’ experience at management level in the Private Sector of the construction
Industry. Beth specialises in the commercial and retail sectors and has worked
as contracts manager and CDM Coordinator for major retail organisations before
establishing her own Company involved in retail project management. Having
gained practical experience in qualifying and assessing NVQs she also holds the
A1 Assessors qualification enabling her to assess construction NVQs.
